(P401) Checking Our Bias – Reducing Stigma in the Clinical Setting

Addressing diabetes stigma is an essential missing element of effective diabetes care. Research shows that diabetes stigma contributes to worse health outcomes. Research also suggests that the clinical setting may be one of the most common places where people experience this form of stigma. This poster defines diabetes stigma, its impacts on people with diabetes, and why stigma runs rampant in the clinical setting. The poster will also provide language recommendations, guidance on tackling stigmatizing topics in your practice, and other tips for creating a stigma and judgment-free practice.
