(P219) Diabetes in KY Schools Training Program Updates

Diabetes in KY Schools is a training program designed to meet the KRS-314.011(6) legislation standards. The training program is intended for non-medical school personnel who care for children and adolescents with diabetes within the KY school system. The program provides an overview of diabetes care tasks, including dietary and exercise recommendations, carbohydrate counting, managing high and low blood glucose levels, common diabetes medications, diabetes technology, devices, healthy and risky coping, and type 2 diabetes in youth. The training program also serves as a training tool for school nurses who train unlicensed personnel on the specifics of diabetes care and includes a competency checklist. This poster will provide an overview of changes to the training program over the last year along with potential future directions.
