Based on current prevalence, about five percent of first-year college students are estimated to have T1D. The 5 biggest stressors for college students; living away, academic demands, finances, future plans, and relationships. This poster discusses the stress accompanied by young adults leaving home and learning to live on their own. Because parents have often managed their disease, they lack the foundational skills they need to manage on their own. Additional environmental factors may be at play, such as drinking, eating disorders, and finances. The poster authors describe real-life experiences of diabetes care and education specialists working with this population with the assistance of CGM to better manage stress and improve outcomes.
