(P218) Diabetes Educators Reaching Across Cultures

Providing diabetes education across diverse cultures requires overcoming barriers. This poster reviews how barriers were identified and the creative strategies employed to overcome them in providing Diabetes Education to members of the Maasai Tribe in Tanzania, Africa, Roatan, Honduras, and the La Mosquitio Region of Honduras. The poster authors discuss building relationships with local clinics and collaborating with community health workers. They note that their strategies can be adapted and employed to meet the challenges of providing diabetes education to additional diverse populations and cultures.
