(P404) Diabetes Distress Perceptions, Experiences, and Diabetes Education Preferences in Adults with T1D

Diabetes care and education specialists may be in a unique position to help alleviate diabetes distress, but there is a knowledge gap between diabetes education services and preferences for these services for people living with T1D. This poster reviews a project to: 1) assess lay understanding of ‘diabetes distress’; 2) describe experiences with diabetes distress using quantitative and qualitative methods, and 3) explore experiences with and perceptions of education about diabetes distress in adults with T1D using an observational, non-intervention online study of invited adults from the T1D Exchange Registry. Participants reported their knowledge and personal definition of diabetes distress (DD), then reviewed a standard definition and reported their DD experiences and educational preferences. Measures included the 2-item Diabetes Distress Screener (DDS-2) and Powerlessness and Physician Distress subscales of the T1D Diabetes Distress Scale (T1-DDS).
