The disproportionate rates of chronic disease among Hispanic communities prompt the exploration of refined modalities for health education for this at-risk population. Dichos (Spanish sayings) may serve as a cultural-linguistic tool to adapt health messaging for Hispanics because of their recognizability, cultural relevance, and linguistic malleability. This poster reviews the first study to culturally tailor the National Diabetes Prevention Program Curriculum for Mexican-origin men through the integration of dichos. The study explored the potential use of dichos to promote learning, motivation, and cultural reframing of health concepts among Hispanic men through one-on-one interviews and pile sortation, development of a dichos-based curriculum with community feedback, and pre/post knowledge and cultural scoring of the curriculum by the Hispanic male community.
