(P318) Relationship Between Toothbrushing, Oral Health, and Glycemic Outcomes in Adults with T2D: A Scoping Review

A recognized bidirectional relationship between periodontal disease and T2D exists and both conditions require self-care management to promote optimal outcomes. There has been little focus on whether improving home oral care behaviors can improve glycemic management. The American Dental Association recommends toothbrushing twice daily and the American Diabetes Association recommends dental preventive care services but does not include guidance about home oral care. This poster discusses a systematic scoping review of the evidence on the relationship between glycemic measures in adults with T2D and the foundational oral health care behavior of regular toothbrushing as a metric for home oral care.
