(P524) Technology-based Diabetes Education and Support for Persons Newly Diagnosed with T2D: A Scoping Review

Annually, 1.5 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in the United States, a majority of which have T2D. Efforts to enroll and retain this population in structured self-management education, support and lifestyle interventions have been challenging, partly due to barriers to access and limited resources for in-person education. The challenges and support needs of this population have also been shown to vary. Technology can be leveraged to address access barriers, support those who are newly diagnosed, and has the potential to improve diabetes outcomes. It is unclear how technology has been used for those with a new diagnosis of T2D. This poster describes a scoping review that synthesized available evidence on how technology has been utilized to educate and support persons with newly diagnosed T2D to inform the design of appropriate interventions to support and better engage them in self-management education.
