This poster summarizes using simulations as a means of learning to compel students to appreciate the day-to-day nuances that a person with chronic conditions undergoes. The purpose of this simulation was to provide students with an opportunity to gain knowledge, understanding, disease state confidence and perceptions of daily living before and after simulating life with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The type 1 simulation consisted of 3 days of recording blood sugar, dietary intake, calculating insulin dosages, and making insulin adjustment recommendations. For the type 2 simulation, students recorded blood sugars, dietary intake, and made insulin adjustment recommendations for an additional 3 days. Students also completed pre- and post-assessment surveys to gauge their confidence with different skills.
