African Americans are at the highest risk for developing kidney disease due to their high incidence of hypertension and T2D. Faith-based approaches have shown effectiveness in health promotion by using religion to connect to the target audience and incorporating cultural values. Regarding context, churches provide trust and can foster and promote health-related behaviors among those who would otherwise resist change. This poster reviews a study aimed to determine knowledge, knowledge source, and risk perception of African American church members with these risk factors using focus groups and individual interviews with pastors. The authors describe their desired outcome to increase awareness and support behavior change, as well as solicit feedback on initiating a future faith-based CKD prevention program.
