Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a leading cause of death for people with both T1D and T2D. Detection and treatment of CVD have advanced, yet heart attacks, strokes, and CHF remain the leading diabetes-related complications contributing to disability and death. Cardiovascular medical nutrition therapy (MNT) is an important part of care for a person with diabetes yet is often underutilized as part of the management plan. In this session, participants will learn the most updated CVD MNT recommendations, and conflicting research results will be addressed. Case studies will be used to demonstrate the application of MNT. Attendees will learn to individualize MNT to reduce the risk of CVD and manage associated complications.
