The GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT-2 inhibitors are classes of medications that have benefits that go beyond glucose management related to cardiorenal outcomes and weight. Yet many people with T2D are not taking these medications or don’t persist in taking them over time. Some of the common barriers to taking these medications are apprehension, skepticism, and misperceptions about the benefits and risks. This session will discuss how to effectively communicate with a person with diabetes about the benefits and risks of T2D medications that improve cardiorenal outcomes while putting rare safety concerns into perspective.
