Evidence indicates that therapeutic inertia is a primary barrier in glucose management. This in turn can lead to poor wound healing. This session will review the pathophysiology of diabetes-related foot ulcers and describe the factors that influence impaired healing in people with diabetes, including the differences between outcomes with insulin versus oral medications. Finally, the presenters will share simple solutions to increase health care providers’ comfort with prescribing insulin for people with diabetes to promote faster wound healing for foot ulcers.
