Burnout among healthcare professionals is a frequently overlooked issue that is characterized by a high degree of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization (i.e., cynicism), and a low sense of personal accomplishment at work. As Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, we are trained to educate and support people with diabetes; yet we often overlook our own needs until a crisis occurs. This session will review the signs and symptoms of professional burnout while bringing the importance of addressing burnout to your management team. This interactive session will provide tools for attendees to reduce burnout and help them continue to provide education and support to people with diabetes and their colleagues.
