The first 12 months following a diabetes diagnosis presents a roller coaster of emotions which often drive the likelihood of behavior change and determine outcomes. This session will examine the impact of a diabetes diagnosis on the entire family, review the different stages of change and grief, share learnings from real-life interviews during their first year, and discuss considerations for behavior management and coping mechanisms to better support diabetes care and education specialists to set patients and their families on the right path forward.
