Minnesota has several large integrated healthcare systems and many of the leaders in these systems have operated under the motto: "Compete and Collaborate." This approach allows for sharing of best practices, sharing of ideas, and room to be innovative across the state. This session describes the collaboration between 3 large healthcare systems in MN: HealthPartners, Allina, and M Health Fairview. All 3 systems have Diabetes Care and Education Specialists practicing at the top of their scope by working under Standing Orders and Protocols. This allows for excellent support of the patient and clinician and contributes to positive outcomes in diabetes care. The presenters will highlight the importance of regional collaboration and walk through the process of developing strong protocols and standing orders.
