School nurses are critical to ensure the safety of students with diabetes. Currently, only 39% of schools employ a full-time school nurse. Due to this shortage, a delegation of health care responsibilities from insulin administration to unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) have become a necessary practice to meet the needs of the population. This session presents a study implementing virtual school nursing programs to UAP in the school setting, which in turn, improves UAP knowledge of diabetes care and education allowing them to best respond to the needs of students with diabetes.
