Since inpatient diabetes management and education are provided by a variety of members of the care team, there may be a lack of sufficient skills and knowledge resulting in suboptimal care and therapeutic inertia. This session will discuss common challenges, innovative solutions, and barriers to implementing them. Key strategies will be presented to guide the development and adoption of related policies, protocols, and educational resources. The presenters will review the 2022 Endocrine Society guidelines and 2023 American Diabetes Association Standards of Care recommendations for the management of diabetes in the inpatient setting. The critical role of the DCES as a leader and change agent in the inpatient setting will be highlighted using real-world stories and case studies.
