Diabetes and hyperglycemia are very common in hospitalized patients. Severe hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia are patient safety concerns and can lead to increased length of stay and readmissions, as well as reduced patient satisfaction. The use of glycemic metrics has been shown to improve glycemic outcomes and result in lower rates of hospital complications. In this presentation, three diabetes care and education specialists from different organizations will define glycemic metrics, describe how to develop inpatient glycemic metrics, and provide examples of how to use glycemic metrics to improve patient outcomes.
