Health care spending related to diabetes continues to increase. Diabetes care and education specialists (DCES) strive to offer diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) services that positively impact quality and patient outcomes and demonstrate health care cost benefits. DCESs assist individuals with diabetes to achieve their health care goals while simultaneously balancing health care costs. This session is designed to enhance DCESs’ knowledge and skills necessary to implement value-based health care research. The presenters will discuss basic fundamental research methods and strategies, summarize a systematic review of the economic impact and health care utilization of DSMES, and leave attendees with tangible ways to apply in practice how to demonstrate the value of the DCES and DSMES programs.
