People with T2D are at high risk of developing heart failure. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the mechanism for increased risk and progression to diabetic cardiomyopathy in people with T2D and how to choose blood glucose-lowering medications in people with heart failure. Presenters will review the clinical impact of the heart failure-related results published in the cardiovascular outcomes trials for SGLT-2 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists, and DPP-4 inhibitors and discuss clinical practice considerations for the management of patients with T2D and chronic heart failure. Finally, attendees will learn key clinical considerations for optimal medication therapy and education for a person with diabetes and heart failure through the presentation of a clinical case.
