Patients with diabetes account for a considerable portion of hospitalized patients and if managed poorly, may experience an increased length of stay, morbidity, and mortality. Improving glycemic outcomes can be difficult because of the lack of standardized benchmarks, and many hospitals do not have the capacity to electronically extract and analyze glucose data. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services proposed the implementation of electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMS) in its final rule for fiscal year 2022 as part of its Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program. In this session, the presenter will discuss the benefits and challenges of eCQMS and how they bring attention to the need for guideline-based glycemic management in the hospital.
