The role of the diabetes care and education specialist has evolved to include patient technical support. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of technology in diabetes care and accelerated the momentum to increase the use of virtual healthcare services. Virtual healthcare became an essential tool for people with diabetes to allow healthcare providers to continue educating, counseling, and supporting their patients. With this expansion of service type came varied interactions with patients through remote devices bringing forth new benefits and challenges. This presentation will discuss provider perceptions of these new delivery mediums and explore the facilitators and barriers identified when delivering diabetes education using a virtual model to a primarily Hispanic population.
