Similar to the increase in the general incidence of diabetes, rates of T1D, T2D, and gestational diabetes in people during child-bearing years are also increasing. Diabetes care for this population should routinely include discussion of preconception counseling and family planning to support their goals and requires an interdisciplinary approach. Pregnancies affected by diabetes present increased maternal and fetal risk, may require significant medication changes, and present new glycemic goals. This presentation will review best practices for people with diabetes in preconception care and family planning, pregnancy, and post-partum with the transition to usual diabetes care.
