There is growing support for changing the language we use when speaking to or about people with diabetes; DCESs are acutely aware of the problem messages heard by people with diabetes and the harm it can do. In fact, our messages can also have an impact on therapeutic inertia. This session will provide background on the connection between diabetes-related messages and therapeutic inertia as well as suggestions for ways to mitigate this problem by choosing strengths-based, person-centered messages. We will also discuss ways to help our professional colleagues adopt these changes.
