Unfortunately, diabetes-related lower extremity complications affect Black patients disproportionately, with 5 times the incidence of amputations compared to White counterparts. The desire to reduce complication rates among people living with diabetes must include an appreciation for the barriers to healthcare, including social determinants of health. This session will explore the association between lower extremity complications and social determinants of health (SDoH). The presentation will provide practical ways to review SDoH with examples of successful prevention strategies for better health outcomes.
